POSITION OVERVIEW:

The WETA Digital Fundraising Manager serves as the day-to-day manager for WETA's digital fundraising initiatives for WETA PBS and WETA Classical in our nation’s capital region. This Manager works in close partnership with the Director of Digital Fundraising to drive revenue growth, donor retention, and audience engagement across all digital channels. This position offers the opportunity to help shape the future of digital philanthropy at WETA, implementing best practices in digital fundraising while experimenting with new tactics to grow and diversify the organization's supporter base in an increasingly digital-first environment. Reports to the Director of Digital Fundraising, and is supported by the Coordinator, Digital Fundraising.

The ideal candidate will be equally comfortable writing persuasive fundraising appeals, designing campaign graphics, ensuring seamless integration with WETA's broader multichannel fundraising efforts—from acquisition and cultivation through stewardship and retention, analyzing campaign metrics, engaging with partners, and testing innovative approaches to digital donor engagement via both tried and true and emerging digital channels.

In addition to fundraising responsibilities, the Digital Fundraising Manager will also help craft and manage the marketing/promotional strategies for WETA+ streaming service, including WETA+ free version and WETA+ with PBS Passport donor level. A key element of this role includes promoting WETA's streaming content and Passport member benefit through regular email newsletters and website content, contributing to both engagement and revenue objectives.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead day-to-day digital fundraising execution for WETA, working collaboratively with the Director of Digital Fundraising, and with support from the Digital Fundraising Coordinator.
  • Working in coordination and collaboration with the Director of Digital Fundraising, other departmental leadership, and cross departmental teams, deploy digital solicitations, including cultivation, stewardship, and engagement communications, to maximize revenue, retention and growth of the donor file and pipeline.
  • Manage email program including developing and creating design assets, drafting and editing email and landing page copy, reporting program and campaign performance, and supporting other digital fundraising goals as they arise.
  • Serve as day-to-day contact with internal and external strategy and software partners managing execution of digital fundraising needs such as custom html code, graphics development, form development, email template builds, automation techniques, etc.
  • Develop, test and implement ideas to drive list growth, including acquisition and cultivation strategies along with other digital engagement opportunities.
  • Collaborate with other team members ensuring digital activity is managed and executed in coordination with other multichannel fundraising activities, specifically digital ads, direct mail and TV, radio and streaming fundraising efforts.
  • Coordinate reporting of digital fundraising campaign results, key performance indicators on the email file, and overall digital file health using Engaging Networks, ROI and Google Analytics, on a regular basis in collaboration with the Data Strategy and Development Services team.
  • Partner with Digital Media Team on management of fundraising opportunities on website
  • Participate in strategic planning meetings as required.
  • Manage, write, design, configure and deploy digital fundraising initiatives related to cultivation, solicitation and activations for the streaming member benefit Passport, including weekly email newsletters, automation journeys, direct solicitations, website assets, donation forms and other digital engagement, cultivation and stewardship activities.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in the Membership, Local and Communications teams to develop and implement strategies for promotion, adoption and expansion of the WETA+ streaming service, to attract new viewers and support Passport conversion and revenue generation through digital channels.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Digital Fundraising to organize, catalog and manage WETA digital content assets.

CORE COMPETENCIES:

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Non-Profit Management, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in digital fundraising, or related field, with a proven track record of increasing digital revenue.
  • Demonstrated expertise in digital fundraising strategy, email marketing, and website marketing.
  • Exceptional writing and communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling and persuasive fundraising copy.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Experience with CRM and eCRM databases (e.g. ROI Solutions Revolution CRM).
  • Proficiency with Google Analytics 4 (GA4) and Google Tag Manager (GTM).
  • Passion for public media.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Non-Profit Management, or a related field.

LOCATION:

WETA and NewsHour Productions are Washington, DC established media and news organizations. We are a largely local workforce based out of the Campbell Place office in Arlington, VA. WETA and NewsHour Productions value employee flexibility when possible. Most positions based in our Arlington, VA office will be onsite or hybrid, depending upon the role.
